Friends of Mt Vernon Shelter Animals and Best Bullies to the Rescue are two devoted rescue groups with one shared mission: helping local homeless dogs and cats. We are teaming up to hold a festive Gala on
Friday, May 15, 2020
at Mulino’s at Lake Isle in Eastchester, NY.
We proudly honor Judy Matos, founder of the Friends of Mt Vernon Shelter Animals, Inc. Judy was an advocate for those without a voice her entire life. She spent every minute of time outside of her family and career as an Occupational Therapist working towards improving conditions for rescue animals and facilitating their adoption. Judy became involved at the Mt Vernon Animal Shelter in 2008 after she witnessed the deplorable conditions at the facility. She rallied volunteers from all over Westchester and spearheaded major improvements in the physical plant, the daily care of the animals, and the quality of the veterinary services they receive. In 2015, she formed her own 501(c)(3), Friends of Mt Vernon Shelter Animals, Inc. Please help us continue Judy’s mission with your support.

Who We Are and What We Do…….
The Friends of Mt Vernon Shelter Animals is an all‐volunteer rescue group that transforms the lives of hundreds of needy dogs and cats living in a bare‐bones city‐run shelter in Mt Vernon, NY. Our goal is to raise funds to provide the necessary care to improve the lives of the animals at the shelter and help promote adoptions.
With the money raised, we provide beds, treats and medical care from veterinary specialists, including orthopedists, cardiologists and ophthalmologists. We hire professional trainers and supply leashes and harnesses used to teach the dogs appropriate behaviors and thereby increase their adoptability. In addition, we continue to install and maintain much needed upgrades to the infrastructure and yard allowing for the animals to be in a heated and air conditioned environment as well as enjoy outdoor exercise and play groups.
The goal and mission of Best Bullies is to serve as advocates for neglected, abandoned, and abused dogs in our community and dogs relinquished to area shelters. Best Bullies stays abreast, on nearly a daily basis, of the dogs brought into our local city animal shelters.
With a network of foster homes and partner rescue groups, we help take the dogs from the shelter and place them in foster care where they can be removed from the stressful shelter environment. In foster care they are given the love, attention, and training necessary to get adopted. By providing that transition from shelter life to home life, we help increase the chances of adoptability. Our volunteers use social media to promote the dogs and help find stable, permanent homes for dogs in the shelter as well as in foster care.
Friends of Mt Vernon Shelter Animals and Best Bullies to the Rescue appreciate your generosity and thank
you for helping us continue our mission to save the lives of homeless animals.
